The Session
In this online session, committee member Andrew Elia, a director of IDG Architects in Springwood in the Blue Mountains will discuss the interview and hiring processes he is involved in at his firm, providing some key points to graduates about presenting themselves and their folios.
We will also hear from 2024 University of Newcastle Masters of Architecture graduates Caitlyn Sherwood and Levi Baker. Caitlyn is now a Project Leader at Webber Architects in Newcastle and Levi is employed at King & Campbell in Port Macquarie as a Graduate of Architecture; they will briefly share their own experience of the folio preparation, interview and hiring process.

Following Andrew’s presentation, he will be happy to answer questions and provide some brief folio feedback to those attending. Please also feel free to let us know in advance if there is anything specific you would like covered in relation to achieving a graduate role.

Andrew Elia
Andrew Elia is a registered Architect with 24 years experience across a range of building typologies with a solid background in environmentally sustainable design. His project experience ranges from residential dwellings, religious and civic buildings, multi-unit residential, aged care developments, Urban Planning and mixed use commercial developments ranging from $1.8-$120m. Andrew is also involved in the development of affordable kit-housing for the Pacific Islands and with IDG Architects committed to a range of pro bono projects across Central Africa and India.
As one of the directors at IDG Architects, Andrew is responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating the talents and input of our team, managing the delivery of projects whilst also being responsible for the company's internal staff training program, including the quarterly training days and other divestment of corporate IP among the team. He is actively involved in the review and recruitment process and excited to share some thoughts on how to present yourself to prospective employers.
