Produced annually by the Regional Architecture Association (RAA), Field shines a light on the exceptional and essential work of architects in Australia’s regions. Through essays, case studies, project profiles and interviews, Field explores the inventiveness, social purpose and community impact of architects and makers shaping more responsive, resourceful and resilient places.

Issue #1 explores housing across three unique perspectives from the East Coast to Central Australia, beginning with ‘Home Truths’ by Professor Anthony Burke. We look at the big impact of tiny forests and bring natural materials into focus – profiling Hobart’s carbon-neutral campus, ‘The Forest’, and a pilot program for prefabricated modular housing made from earth, hemp and straw. We explore resilience through architect-led disaster responses, and share first-hand accounts of regional practice issues, from starting small to thinking big with the procurement of public projects.
