One of our Saturday morning fringe events will be a visit to the new Institute of Marine and Antarctic Science facility for the University of Tasmania (UTAS), designed by Preston Lane Architects.

INSTITUTE OF MARINE AND ANTARCTIC SCIENCE

The University of Tasmania’s Institute of Marine and Antarctic Science (IMAS) is expanding its existing research and teaching facilities on their site at Nubeena Crescent, Taroona. Preston Lane Architects have been engaged for full Architectural services as head/lead consultant to deliver a highly crafted and world-leading teaching and research facility.

The project is to house such facilities as physical and biological containment level 2 research spaces, teaching and research laboratories, office, and administration spaces. The project includes new incoming and outgoing (waste) water treatment facilities, all in accordance with Biosecurity Tasmania, local municipality, and regulatory authorities.

PRESTON LANE ARCHITECTS

Preston Lane Architects is an award-winning practice focused on providing innovative and successful design solutions that are responsive to both our client’s needs and the environment.  They have an appetite for design and strongly believe that high-quality design outcomes add value.

The practice brings together the diverse professional experiences of directors, Daniel Lane and Nathanael Preston. Their combined experience ranges from small-scale, highly crafted residential projects to large-scale urban design.  They also have extensive experience in the management of multi-disciplinary teams on large commercial projects.

Design outcomes are developed following rigorous analysis of both brief and site. The understanding of the environment and ‘place’, is integral in their approach, and informs all aspects of their architecture. Preston Lane has offices in Hobart and Melbourne and all projects are shared between offices, providing the unique opportunity to have an ‘outsider’ review and challenge evolving concepts.
