RAA Committee Profile
MARCUS PIPER
Marcus Piper is a founding committee member of RAA, on board from the moment he received a call from then-president Cameron Anderson back in 2021. As a non-architect, his initial motivations for joining the committee were the people, the professional and social engagement in the regions and his belief that design plays an important role in the way our regions are evolving.
In that time, Marcus believes his most important contribution is having been part of the development of the association and its success to date. He feels it’s important that regional architects have a voice separate to metro practices, saying “metro areas are well served by other associations and, equally, have access to CPD and social gatherings. Regional practices need these things also with a tailored regional-specific offering.”
Hosting an event in his own town of Moruya and uncovering the diverse stories that often get overlooked is one memorable aspect of Marcus’ committee involvement. Seeing that event become the boiler-plate for future RAA events is something he’s really proud of. Committee involvement, particularly through working on events and managing technical members has allowed Marcus to experience the many facets of association, sponsor and event management.
Encouraging others to be involved in the future of RAA he reflects that “It is an amazing opportunity to help shape the future of the association, the creative professions and our regions. And have a load of fun!”
After close to five years of investing his time in the establishment and growth of RAA, Marcus is stepping down from the committee at the end of June 2025. On behalf of members, committee and the broader RAA network, we would like to thank him for his immense contribution to the organisation on all levels and wish him well for the future.
There will be committee positions open at the upcoming AGM in October. RAA members are invited to express their interest in joining by contacting Rhiannon on info@regionalarchitecture.net.au
