POWER OF COMMUNITY creative director

ROBERT MIERISCH M Eng (Research), Dip Mech Eng, Grad Dip Ed.
Yarrayne / Guildford

Now local to Yarrayne / Guildford, Robert Mierisch is a semi-retired Mechanical Engineer and inventor of several innovative systems in mechanical engineering. Currently, Robert is working on a Rural Residential Energy System that will provide electricity, hot water, winter heating, summer cooling and electric car charging, at night.

The neighbourhood system can use any combination of photovoltaic panels, wind generators and/or Solar Collector Assemblies (SCAs) that track the sun and collect heat. Thermal Energy Storage Systems (TESs) hold enough heat to provide the average energy required for two days, when no solar energy or wind energy is available. The backup generator extends that to ten days. The cooling system ensures that any water consumption is trivial.

Robert has more than 20 years engagement with sustainable power technologies and various forms of distributed thermal storage both in Australia and Overseas. He was invited to be Research Director, Thermal Systems at “Ausra Incorporated”, California before co-founding “Terrajoule inc” now Terrajoule.energy ‘the scalable alternative to solar + battery’. Robert has also worked as a Senior Engineering Consultant with Hydro Tasmania and spent fourteen years as an academic at Swinburne University of Technology and undertook a sabbatical at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. Co-founder of 2 startup companies with more to come.

His home has four sources of water and hundreds of food bearing plants and is his testing ground for highly cost effective energy systems for rural residences and businesses. His solar heated pool and spa will soon be used to reduce his heating and cooling costs and ensure his air conditioner always works well.
