The Session
This online event is being held in the lead up to REFLECTIONS, to set the scene for the in person experience. Nigel Milgate and Mirjana Tann of Indigenous organisation and cultural business, Marring, will introduce the concept of Buwindyala, their Theory of Change. This is a Dharrawal-led framework that carries the mindset of the Ancestors into how your people decide, work and lead themselves and others. Change that starts within, and ripples out.
Marring
Marring gives organisations access to Aboriginal-led cultural authority, practical frameworks and professional delivery confidence, helping them move from good intentions to meaningful cultural transformation.
Marring brings together deep connection to Country, lived cultural knowledge, structured methodology and reliable delivery. This gives government, corporate, education and community partners the confidence to engage with culture credibly, reduce risk and create outcomes that are practical, respectful and lasting.
Marring Strategy and Partnerships (MSP) is the consulting practice of Marring. MSP works alongside organisations to build genuine, lasting relationships with Aboriginal communities and Traditional Owners. From strategic advisory through to on-the-ground delivery, MSP helps organisations move beyond compliance and into real relationship with community, creating accountability and outcomes that are trusted, practical and built to last.
Nigel Milgate - Community Engagement, Stakeholder Management, Empowering Communities
Nigel is a proud Ngemba/Wangaaypuwan/Karul-kiyalu man who grew up in Dubbo, NSW, with cultural heritage originating from the Gundabooka Mountain, Compton Downs and Brewarrina communities. His Aboriginal heritage and strong connection to culture and family have fostered his identity. A seasoned community service professional with over 20 years of experience, Nigel has a proven track record in community engagement and a rare ability to bring people with very different, sometimes opposing, perspectives to the table and unite them around a single, strong voice. He is passionate about creating positive change and empowering communities through inclusive approaches.
Mirjana Tann - Strategy, Change & Transformation
Mirjana brings 30 years of corporate experience in project delivery, consulting, organisational strategy and transformation. After three decades in corporate life she wanted to do something with real purpose. Then she met Ray Timbery, who extended an invitation to walk together. There was nothing to fear. Since then she has learnt to lead when it’s appropriate and follow when it’s appropriate, helping establish MSP as a full consulting practice and develop the Buwindyala Collaboration Framework. What she brings is the willingness to unlearn what the system teaches many of us, to accept connection, be corrected, keep showing up, and to help other people and organisations do the same.
