CARLY McMAHON
Carly McMahon is a Senior Architect at Cox Architecture, with extensive experience delivering public, cultural, education, community, and sporting projects. Her work is underpinned by a people and place-centred design approach, grounded in listening, meaningful engagement, and collaboration across disciplines. She has led and contributed to major public and master planning projects across Australia, leading design-focused outcomes, complex stakeholder engagement processes, and competition submissions, particularly for cultural and museum projects.
A passionate advocate for the profession, Carly has held leadership and volunteer roles with the AIA and EmAGN. These include positions as the Creative Director for the Architecture Awards Program in Tasmania, AIA Tasmanian Chapter Councillor, AIA Tasmanian Chapter Education Committee Member and Creative Direction of the Weekend Away Conference. These contributions have been recognised through selection for the Dulux Study Tour and the Queensland Emerging Architect Prize. Carly maintains an ongoing commitment to creating inclusive, enduring, and meaningful public architecture that enriches communities and strengthens connections to place.
SAM McQUEENEY
Sam McQueeney is an Architect, and Director of McMahon McQueeney Office, living and working in Nipaluna / Hobart. With more than a decade of experience in the industry, Sam has contributed to numerous private and public sector projects, working across several project typologies to execute projects in Tasmania, New South Wales, Queensland as well as further abroad. Sam holds a particular interest in defining boundaries—the sharp line of a window frame, the sweep of a roofline, and the making of corners in their various formations. He believes in building small, forcing each idea and intervention to punch above its weight.
Alongside his work in architectural practice, Sam has been enthusiastically engaged in the architectural profession through various initiatives including the Emerging Architects and Graduates Network in Tasmania and Queensland, the National Committee for Gender Equity (NCGE), the SONA SuperStudio State Jury, AIA Tasmanian Practice Committee and the Open House Hobart Committee. He has been part of the teaching team for the Diploma of Sustainable Living at the University of Tasmania since 2021. He believes in advocacy through radical involvement. His contributions have been recognised through selection for the AIA Dulux Study Tour in 2020.
