We'll gather on Friday evening for a relaxed barbecue dinner outside the Great Cobar Museum, offering the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow delegates while experiencing one of the town's most significant heritage buildings. During the evening, attendees will also have the opportunity to explore the museum and its thoughtfully restored exhibitions.

GREAT COBAR MUSEUM
Led by DunnHillam, the restoration sought to preserve the character and stories embedded within the former Great Cobar Copper Mine offices while carefully introducing the accessibility, compliance and exhibition spaces needed for a contemporary museum. Rather than concealing the historic fabric, the design celebrates it, with a lightweight exhibition framework allowing the restored building to remain the centrepiece. New architectural interventions are clearly expressed through red-painted steel elements, referencing the heavy machinery of Cobar's mining heritage while distinguishing new work from old.

The museum experience extends beyond the building itself, guiding visitors from the new entry and verandahs through the restored interiors and into the surrounding landscape, reflecting the scale of Cobar's pastoral and mining history. Set against this remarkable example of adaptive reuse, our Friday evening gathering offers an engaging introduction to the stories, heritage and architecture that have shaped the town and provide the backdrop for our time together in Cobar.
