Our final Saturday fringe event will be a visit to the Mount Grenfell Rock Art Site, where we'll experience one of the most significant collections of Aboriginal rock art in New South Wales. Located within Mount Grenfell Historic Site, this remarkable cultural landscape has been a place of gathering, ceremony and knowledge sharing for Ngiyampaa People for thousands of years.

MOUNT GRENFELL ROCK ART SITE

A gentle walk through the site leads to three galleries of rock art beneath natural overhangs, where richly coloured paintings depict human figures, animals, waterways, medicine, Country and Dreaming stories in red, yellow and ochre pigments. Hand stencils and layered artworks reveal generations of cultural expression, making this an extraordinary opportunity to experience a place that continues to hold deep significance for Traditional Owners.

As our Cobar event comes to an end, this visit offers the opportunity to reflect on the enduring relationship between people, Country and place. Set within the striking landscape of Mount Grenfell Historic Site, it provides a meaningful reminder that the stories of regional Australia extend far beyond its built environment, offering a deeper understanding of the cultural history that continues to shape the region today.
